The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded famed fuji artist Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1) for six months, citing serious safety breaches and unacceptable behavior at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport during an incident on August 5, 2025, involving ValueJet flight VK201.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that K1 has been blacklisted nationwide, stressing that aviation regulations apply to everyone to ensure passenger safety. Legal proceedings are being sought through the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo condemned the behavior, stating that K1 repeatedly obstructed the aircraft’s taxiing movement, likening it to a hostage situation. Keyamo criticized both K1 and the pilot, calling their actions a dangerous breach of protocol.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting alcohol was involved, the minister clarified that the conflict stemmed solely from operational obstruction; K1’s representatives maintain the flask in question contained only plain water.
