N71.4m Fraud: Mama Boko Haram sentenced to five years imprisonment

Charmingpro reports that Aisha Wakil, also known as ‘Mama Boko Haram,’ was sentenced to five years in prison by a Borno high court for fraud.

Mama Boko Haram was re-arrested alongside Tahiru Daura and Prince Shoyode in September 2020 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Maiduguri zonal command on a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence totaling N71,400,000.

 

Count one of the charges brought against them;

 

“That you, Aisha Alkali Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyode, while serving as chief executive officer, programme manager, and country director, respectively, of Complete Care and Aid Foundation (a non-governmental organization), with intent to defraud, induced one Saleh Ahmed Said of Shuad General Enterprises Ltd to deliver to you 3,000 bags of beans worth N71,400.00.”

 

After they pleaded not guilty to the charges, Mukhtar Ahmed, the prosecutor, called four witnesses and presented several documents that were admitted as exhibits.

 

Justice Aisha Kumaliya, who handed down her decision in the case on Tuesday, June 14, stated that the prosecution proved its case against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.

 

 

The defendants were sentenced to five years in prison without the option of a fine by the judge. The convicts were also ordered to pay N30,500,000 in restitution to the victim.

If they do not pay the fine, the judge has ordered that the convicts serve an additional 10-year sentence.
