A human rights lawyer based in Jalingo has filed a lawsuit against the Taraba State Government through the Attorney General of the Federation, contesting alleged illegal intervention in mining activities.

Bilyaminu Meihanchi, alongside Barrister Muhammad Danladi, submitted the lawsuit at the Federal High Court Jalingo, targeting Executive Orders No. 3 and No. 5 recently issued by Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas.

These orders focused on the prohibition of mining activities and related acts in the state.

The lawyers who are challenging the state government action claimed it encroached upon the Federal Government’s Exclusive List powers.

Alongside the Attorney General of the Federation, the state governor and the attorney general of the state were all named in the lawsuit as second and third respondents.

The lawsuit further seeks declarations concerning the legality of the mobile court established by the executive orders, arguing it is inconsistent with existing legislation and a breach of the exclusive jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.

Additionally, it challenges the activities of the General Faransa-led Special Task Force committee, asserting their illegality and unconstitutionality per the provisions of the executive orders
