Kabiru Marafa’s faction sets up new committee to tackle APC leadership crisis in Zamfara

The Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa’s faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has constituted a 21-man committee, saddled with the responsibility of reestablishing his political group under the Zamfara State APC.

A statement issued by the chairman of the group, Alhaji Sirajo Garba Maikatako, the committee has held its first meeting under his leadership.

The statement further stated that Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa collapsed his political structure after a peace deal with former Governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, led by the national APC leadership.

According to the statement, the group seeks to revive Senator Marafa’s political structure, which was temporarily ceased during peace negotiations led by APC national leadership after the crisis that marred the 2019 general elections.

“The committee made it clear that the move is not intended to create a faction within the APC, but rather to establish a strong group under Senator Marafa’s leadership, spanning from the polling unit level through ward, LGA to the state level.

“The aim is to prevent the hijacking of the party by a few individuals. An open invitation was extended to all well-meaning individuals in Zamfara State to join the group, emphasizing fair treatment for both existing and potential new members.

“The committee expressed disappointment that while the focus should be on addressing the pressing issue of insecurity in the state, the current management of the APC in Zamfara State has hindered progress and made this difficult by engaging in internal power struggles.

“Also, it is lamentable how the party became a tool in the service of individual interests against the peace and stability of the state, with the party only being heard when such interests are questioned.”
