Gov Namadi tasks youth to champion tree planting for environmental preservation

The Jigawa State Government has called on the youth to take a leading role in the preservation of the environment through active participation in tree-planting initiatives.

State Commission of Ministry of Environment, Dr Nura Ibrahim made the call at the launch of the tree planting campaign in Suletankarkar Local Government supported by UNICEF in commemoration of World Youth International Day.

He said the Jigawa State Government targets the planting of 1,500 trees in semi-arid areas of northern Jigawa including Babura, Suletankarkar and Maigatari local governments to reduce the effects of deforestation.

This appeal comes as part of the ongoing efforts to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable development in the state.

The commissioner, however, warned residents against partaking in the felling of trees which he said is the main cause of environmental degradation

Dr. Uba Lawal, Programme Specialist, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), UNICEF Field Office Kano, said Youth have a greater role to play in environmental conservation.

According to him, “Youths are the leaders of tomorrow, and it is heartening to see them take charge of their future,” he said.

“You have energy, creativity, and passion to drive positive change,” he said
