Authorities in Ekiti State have dismantled an unauthorized study centre falsely operating under the name of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete. The centre, located in Ado-Ekiti, was allegedly awarding counterfeit Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees to unsuspecting individuals.
Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, reported that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department uncovered the fraudulent operation on February 18, 2025. The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Adesanmi Sunday and Akinola Olaolu, who were charged to court on April 11, 2025.
KWASU has officially disassociated itself from the illicit centre, emphasizing that it has no study centres outside Ilorin, Kwara State. The university warned the public against engaging with unauthorized entities claiming affiliation with KWASU.
This incident underscores the importance of verifying the authenticity of educational institutions and programmes to avoid falling victim to scams.
