The cost of a Healthy Diet in Nigeria increased by 19.2 percent on a month-on-month basis to N1,241 in June 2024 from N1,041 in May.

The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed this in its recent CoHD data.

The figure represents the cost per adult per day excluding the cost of transportation and meal preparation.

On a regional analysis, in June 2024, the average CoHD was highest in the South West at N1,545 per adult per day, compared to N956 per adult per day in the North West.

“The Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) is the least expensive combination of locally available items that meet globally consistent food-based dietary guidelines.

“In recent months, the CoHD has risen faster than general inflation and food inflation” NBS stated.

The development comes as Nigeria’s food inflation increased to 40.87 percent in June resulting in an increase in living costs
