Nigeria’s sports ministry has spent $25,000 on athletes who have performed admirably in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Charmingpro reports 

The donation was made at a ceremony held at the Hilton Garden in Birmingham by the ministry, led by Chief of Staff to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Abba Yola.

All gold medalists received $5,000, and their coaches received $3,000 each.

Taiwo Laidi, who won silver in the women’s 76kg weightlifting event, was awarded $3,000 for her efforts.

Bronze medalists Edidiong Joseph Umaofia, Islamiyat Yusuf, and Mary Osijo each received $2,000 for their efforts.

The other athletes who won medals on Thursday in their various events are expected to be rewarded soon.
