Popular American celebrity singer Chris Brown, was arrested early Thursday morning in Manchester in connection with a violent incident that allegedly occurred at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old artist was taken into custody by Metropolitan Police officers at the five-star Lowry Hotel on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit of the Met Police led the arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into a reported assault on February 19, 2023.
In a statement, the Met Police confirmed: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023.”
The alleged victim, music producer Abe Diaw, claims Brown attacked him with a tequila bottle during an altercation at Tape, an exclusive nightclub in London. “He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well,” Diaw told The Sun on Sunday, adding that he required hospital treatment and was on crutches afterward.
The incident reportedly happened while Brown was on tour in the UK. He had been scheduled to return for 10 more performances across Britain next month as part of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour, celebrating 20 years in music. It’s unclear how the arrest may affect those plans.
In addition to the criminal case, Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking $16 million (about £12 million) in damages for injuries and financial losses he claims resulted from the attack.
Brown, a two-time Grammy Award winner, has faced numerous legal issues over the years. His representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding the arrest.
