American billionaire businessman John Morgan has revealed that all of his children are required to sign prenuptial agreements before marriage, stating that any child who refuses to do so will be excluded from inheriting his fortune.
Morgan made the disclosure during an appearance on the Earn Your Leisure Podcast, where he explained that the policy was designed to protect family assets and encourage his children to make thoughtful decisions about marriage.
According to the billionaire, statistics on divorce played a major role in shaping his views on prenuptial agreements.
“Number one, 50% of all marriages are going to end in divorce. That’s just raw numbers. For people who marry after 30, it’s only 4%. Wait till you’re 30. Get it out of your system. Have your fun in your 20s,” he said.
Morgan noted that he intentionally positions himself as the person insisting on the prenup so that his children do not have to carry the burden of making the request themselves.
“My dad is not going to leave us any money if he doesn’t get this prenup signed. I become the bad guy,” he explained.
The businessman further argued that resistance to a prenuptial agreement can sometimes indicate that a person is more interested in potential financial benefits than the relationship itself.
“When you start asking somebody a prenup, here’s the first thing they’re going to say, ‘You’re just saying this marriage isn’t going to work.’ They’re playing you. I’m like, ‘You’re looking for the money,'” he said.
Morgan also recounted an experience involving one of his sons, whose fiancée reportedly sought legal advice regarding the proposed agreement. According to him, the fiancée’s lawyer described the document as one-sided and requested negotiations.
However, Morgan said he rejected any attempt to alter the agreement.
“I said, ‘This is a take-it-or-leave-it document. There is no negotiating,'” he recalled.
He added that when the lawyer declined to recommend the agreement, he advised that the wedding should be postponed if his son’s fiancée was unwilling to sign.
According to Morgan, the agreement was eventually signed before the marriage took place, and the couple have now been married for 13 years.
Reflecting on his decision, the billionaire said his primary concern was protecting family wealth from potential disputes in the event of a future divorce.
His comments have generated debate online, with supporters arguing that prenuptial agreements are a practical financial safeguard, while critics contend that such agreements can create mistrust and place undue pressure on relationships before marriage.
