The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, has ordered the arrest of police officers caught in a viral video allegedly ass@ulting a tricycle (keke) rider in the state.
The Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed this in a statement released by its spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, following widespread public outrage over the footage circulating on social media.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police strongly condemned the officers’ actions, describing them as unacceptable, unprofessional, and completely at odds with the ethics and standards of modern policing.
DSP Mohammed reiterated that the Bayelsa State Police Command does not condone human rights violations, brutality, or abuse of power in any form, stressing that officers are expected to protect citizens, not intimidate or assault them.
He disclosed that the officers involved in the incident have been arrested, and disciplinary proceedings have already commenced in line with the provisions of the Police Act and other relevant regulations.
The command assured members of the public that justice will be served and urged citizens to continue reporting cases of police misconduct, noting that accountability remains a core priority of the leadership of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
