Doctoral researchers Aminu Tukur and Usman Bukar Usman, both from Bayero University Kano, emerged as the top winners at the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) 2026 Doctoral Consortium, held as part of the NCS International Conference 2026 (RISE 2026).
The consortium took place at Crispan Hotels, Jos, Plateau State, from July 27 to 31, 2026, bringing together PhD students from universities across Nigeria to present their research before a panel of experts.
At the end of the highly competitive event, Aminu Tukur clinched the first position, receiving a cash prize of ₦800,000 for his outstanding doctoral research presentation.
His fellow Bayero University Kano researcher, Usman Bukar Usman, finished in second place and was awarded ₦300,000.
The third position went to Ademola Daniel of Charisma University, who received ₦200,000, while Bakabo from the University of Abuja secured fourth place, taking home a cash prize of ₦100,000.
The Doctoral Consortium was sponsored by Professor Tanko Ishaya, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, whose support helped provide funding for the awards presented to the outstanding doctoral researchers.
The achievements of the winners were also celebrated by Gift Adene, a winner of the 2025 NCS Doctoral Consortium, who shared the results on Facebook and congratulated the participants for their impressive performances.
The NCS Doctoral Consortium has become one of the conference’s flagship academic events, providing doctoral candidates with an opportunity to showcase innovative research, receive feedback from leading scholars and industry experts, and compete for recognition and research support.
The NCS International Conference 2026, themed “RISE 2026,” attracted academics, researchers, technology professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the country to discuss emerging trends and innovations shaping the future of computing and information technology in Nigeria.
