Afro-Fuji Singer Destiny Boy Reportedly Dies at 22; Police Arrest One Suspect

Popular Afro-Fuji singer Adesina Afeez, professionally known as Destiny Boy, has reportedly died at the age of 22, sparking widespread shock across Nigeria’s music scene.

Initial reports claim the young artiste suddenly began vomiting blood and collapsed before his death. The circumstances surrounding the incident have since drawn the attention of law enforcement.

Confirming developments in the case, the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of one suspect in connection with Destiny Boy’s death. According to the police, the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for thorough investigation, while the suspect remains in custody.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that investigations into the death of the 22-year-old singer are ongoing and assured the public that updates would be provided as the probe progresses.

News of Destiny Boy’s passing broke on Sunday after disturbing videos showing his lifeless body being conveyed to a mortuary surfaced online, triggering grief, speculation, and intense reactions on social media. In one of the viral clips, the late singer was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils.

Amid growing speculation, an associate of the singer later released a video explaining that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge prior to his death, though no further details were disclosed.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy rose to prominence in 2019 after his Fuji-infused cover of Davido’s hit song “If” went viral. He became known for blending traditional Fuji elements with contemporary street pop, carving out a distinct sound that resonated with young audiences.

Over the years, he released several tracks including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey. In late 2024, the singer welcomed his first child, a milestone he openly celebrated.

Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, born in November 2024.

Police say investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the exact cause and circumstances of his death.
