Abducted Anglican Priest, Edwin Achi, Dies in Captivity

The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna has announced the d3ath of Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, who was abducted alongside his wife and daughter on October 28, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the diocese described Achi’s passing as “a painful loss to the entire diocese, the clergy, the church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.”

The church confirmed that his wife and daughter remain in captivity, adding, “We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers.”

In honour of the late priest, the diocese announced the cancellation of its Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme, noting that the decision was taken out of respect for his service and sacrifice.

According to Daily Trust, Achi and his family were abducted after bandits stormed their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, shortly after the family relocated there. The kidnappers reportedly demanded N600 million as ransom.

Venerable Achi hailed from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
