A woman has been rescued from horrific conditions in the Mpape area of Maitama Extension, Abuja, after allegedly being chained and locked inside a dark room by her biological brother for four consecutive years. The prolonged captivity reportedly stemmed from a bitter dispute over a joint cement business the siblings had started together. To cut his sister out of the enterprise and seize total control, the brother allegedly labeled her mentally unstable, using the fabricated diagnosis as a pretext to confine her away from the public eye and block her from claiming her rightful financial share.
The disturbing situation finally came to light when a local resident fetching water near the compound noticed strange, unusual sounds echoing from a tightly locked room. Alarmed by the muffled noises, the citizen raised an immediate alarm, drawing the attention of community members who mobilized and forced their way into the building. Inside the dark room, they discovered the victim bound in chains. She was immediately liberated from the premises and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, with witnesses noting that she had completely lost the ability to walk due to the severe muscle atrophy caused by years of strict confinement.
In addition to the confinement, local sources raised further disturbing allegations regarding the victim’s young daughter, who went missing around the time the captivity began. While community members openly suspect the brother of foul play and allege the child may have been disappeared for ritual purposes, security agencies have emphasized that these specific claims remain unverified. Law enforcement has launched a full investigation into the incident to track down the suspect and uncover the exact whereabouts of the missing child.
