The Nigerian Labour Congress took its protest to the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday Charmingpro reportsÂ
Security had been beefed up before the Labour Union arrived at the Legislative Houses, with fierce-looking security agents stationed throughout the complex.
The amount of human and vehicular traffic was massive, making it difficult for motorists to enter the complex.
The Senate proceedings, which had already begun around 11 a.m. with the opening prayer by Senate President Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, entered a closed-door session a few minutes after the NLC arrived at the complex.
Mr Ayuba Wabba, the National President, led the protest on Wednesday.
In addition, the students and their leadership are taking part in the protest on Wednesday. The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, and the leadership of the National Youth Council are also present.
Though the National Assembly leadership had yet to address protesters at the time of filing this report, it is worth recalling that the NLC is identifying with ASUU and is “demanding replacement of the inconsistent IPPIS with U3PA payment platform; respect/honour collective bargaining agreement that was freely and mutually reached with ASUU,” among other things.
