Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba Nation activist, has been freed from jail in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Ilana Omo Oodua’s publicist, released a statement announcing his release.
The statement was titled: “Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo Ighoho Released to Yoruba Leader, Banji Akintoye, French Language Expert, Adeniran by the Benin Republic Government.”
The statement said he was released by the Benin Republic Government on Monday.
The statement said the activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba leader and leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran.
Akintoye characterized Ighoho’s release as a victory of truth against evil in Yoruba Land.
On July 1, 2021, officers of the Department of State Services, DSS, attacked Igboho’s flat in Ibadan and forced him to flee.
Following that, he fled the nation and was apprehended in Benin Republic while on his way to Germany with his wife, Ropo, who was eventually freed.
Igboho was arrested on 20 July, 2021 and has been in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic since then.
