Dr Sheikh Ramzy conducted the opening prayer in Arabic at the 2026 AfroEuropa Gala & Awards Night, setting a reflective tone for the evening’s celebration of African and European culture, achievement and community.
The prestigious event was held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at The City Pavilion on Collier Road, Romford, United Kingdom.
The gala brought together distinguished guests, celebrities, community leaders and other notable personalities for an evening of entertainment, networking, celebration and photography.
Deborah Jay Kelly hosted the red carpet and reception, welcoming guests as they arrived for the highly anticipated event.
Dr Sheikh Ramzy, who led the opening prayer, is an Islamic scholar and humanitarian campaigner. Born in the Middle East, he has lived in Oxford for more than three decades and is the founder of the Oxford Islamic Information Centre.
He has also worked with the Muslim Council of Britain on initiatives aimed at promoting greater understanding of Islam. According to his profile, he serves as an Ambassador of the Universal Peace Foundation and is a member of the United Nations Association UK.
His participation in the AfroEuropa Gala added a faith and inter-community dimension to the event, with his Arabic opening prayer marking the formal commencement of the night’s activities.
The 2026 AfroEuropa Gala & Awards Night was convened by Maureen Charming Layokun and featured an evening of entertainment, celebrity appearances, distinguished guests and photoshoots.
