A Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced the Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Limited, Agene Johnson Godwin, to a cumulative 48 years in prison without the option of a fine for operating a large-scale investment fraud.
Justice M.S. Abubakar delivered the judgment after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the EFCC, the scheme allegedly defrauded over 5,000 Nigerians of more than ₦500 million by promising unrealistic, guaranteed returns to attract investors. The court heard that Builderstech Solution Limited was presented as a legitimate investment platform, while funds paid in by victims were diverted for personal use.
In sentencing, the judge said the length and severity of the punishment were meant to serve as a strong deterrent to others who might contemplate similar fraudulent activities.
The EFCC described the ruling as a victory for justice and advised the public to thoroughly verify investment opportunities before committing funds.
