A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has raised concerns over what he described as discrepancies between the gazetted tax laws currently in circulation and the versions passed by the National Assembly.

Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, December 17, Dasuki alleged that some provisions contained in the published copy of the new tax laws differ from the harmonised versions approved by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

According to him, the issue amounts to a breach of legislative privilege and constitutional procedure. He told the House that after carefully reviewing the gazetted document alongside the official votes and proceedings of both chambers, he discovered significant inconsistencies.

“Mr Speaker, Honourable colleagues, what was passed on this floor is not what has been gazetted,” Dasuki said. “I was here, I voted, my vote was counted, yet I am seeing something completely different being presented to Nigerians.”

He further alleged that the version currently being circulated and made available through the Ministry of Information does not reflect the laws approved by lawmakers, describing the situation as a serious constitutional breach.

Dasuki called on the Speaker to mandate a review of both the harmonised legislative documents and the gazetted copy, urging that all relevant materials be brought before the Committee of the Whole for proper scrutiny and correction where necessary.

“This is a breach of the Constitution and our laws, and it should not be taken lightly by this Honourable House,” he added.

In response, Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, assured members that the matter would be investigated and addressed in the overall interest of the country.
