The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, who announced that the President had accepted Nnaji’s resignation.
According to Onanuga, “President Tinubu accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.”
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter expressing gratitude to the President “for the opportunity to serve Nigeria.” He also stated that he had “been a target of blackmail by political opponents.”
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours,” the statement added.
Nnaji’s resignation comes amid mounting scrutiny over the authenticity of his academic credentials, though he has continued to deny any wrongdoing.
