    Adieu Otunba (Dr) Oladapo Oshun-Williams

    An Iroko Tree Has Fallen!

Friends of Otunba (Dr) Williams gathered together on Tuesday, 25th of August at the Whitehart Restaurant in Kent, to share memories and celebrate a great man who will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 26th August 2020.

According to Mr. Ayo Akinfe, one of the organisers of the event, Dr. Dapo Williams touched so many lives and did so many good things for individuals, organisations, and associations. He was, indeed, a great pillar of support in the African community in United Kingdom. This event, he added, was to drink to Dr. Williams’s soul and to wish his family good luck, and hope they get over this huge loss.

In his words, Mr. Akinfe said, “We as a community are mourning him today.  We are sad because he will no longer be a part of all our activities.  He will not be able to chair our events, he won’t be able to support our initiatives”.

“As a community we now need to think of what to do in his memory.  Should we have a Dapo Williams Annual Memorial Lecture?  Should we have a Dapo Williams Service of Songs or erect a monument in his honour?.  Some are suggesting we should have a Dapo Williams Day at the park.  When we have decided on what to do, we would waste no time to act the way Dr. Williams would have done.”

“Dr. Williams was always there to support others in getting things done; it is now pay back time for him.”

Mr. Ayo Akinfe described the mood of those present as though a bit sombre, however, on the other hand guests were celebrating Otunba Williams, as he fought a good fight and ran a good race.  He died over the age of 60, he was a father and a grandfather, who achieved a lot.  So he deserves to be celebrated.

“Dapo Williams was a wonderful man, a beautiful soul; always there to put out fires and getting people to forget their differences.  He was always calm, collected and the peacemaker”.  So we are remembering him today, Mr. Akinfe concluded.
