Septuagenarian killed, many injured, 64 houses set ablaze in Bauchi communal clash

A 70-year-old man, Apollos Danlami, was on Saturday killed in a communal clash that occurred at Sanga village in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, while 65-year-old Naemiya Nature and some other person sustained varying degrees of injuries in the skirmishes.

The skirmishes, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, occurred as a result of the coronation of Hamlet head of Sanga, resulting in protest by some irate youths in the community.

Wakil explained in a press release he made available to journalists on Sunday in Bauchi that upon receiving a distress call over the skirmishes, the command swiftly deployed its operatives comprising tactical teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Operation Restore Peace in the area, adding that the deployment brought the situation under control.

According to the police spokesman, “One person by the name of Apollos Danlami 70 years was killed in the incident, while a certain Naemiya Bature 65 years of and some other people were injured in the fracas.

“The irate youths set 64 houses, 3 motorcycles and properties worth millions of Naira ablaze.”

The PPRO further stated that, “the area is relatively peaceful for now and security measures have been reinforced in and around Bogoro LGA as the safety of the citizens remains the highest priority of the Command while a work round-the-clock to keep harm at bay.

“Also, visibility patrol is ongoing to keep maintain public peace and order.”

He stated that the state Commissioner of Police has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bogoro to commence a discrete investigation in earnest to unravel the circumstances that led to this turmoil, adding that concerted efforts had been intensified in a bid to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act to face the full wrath of the law.
