Hafsat Ganduje, the wife of Kano State Governor Umaru Ganduje, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
According to reports, she was detained on Monday evening in connection with a bribery and land fraud case brought by her son, Abdualzeez Ganduje.
Ganduje’s wife had already been invited to report to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters on September 13, but she did not comply.
In his appeal, Abdulazeez, the governor’s son, stated that he was approached by a property developer to assist the acquisition of several plots of land in Kano in exchange for a commission of hundreds of thousands of US dollars.
Three months later, he said, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he paid for had been given to other buyers, leading him to request a refund.
The mother, according to Abdulazeez, refused to honor the request, straining his relationship with the developer.
Spokesman of the agency, Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for comments as his mobile phone indicated ”switched off”.
